Tennis Necklaces in Sapphire, Emerald and Diamond

One line of matched stones, and the matching is the craft. Ours begin where the diamond classic ends. Pink sapphire in rounds, ovals, pears and emerald cuts. Orange sapphire in trillions. Blue sapphire in teardrops, or set thick, close to forty carats on one strand. Emerald, tsavorite in an ombre run of greens, kyanite, black onyx against white diamonds, brown zircon warmed by rose gold. The diamond lines hold their ground: a graduated illusion line, a choker interrupted by butterflies, square bezels, a black and white strand named for Elizabeth's Persian cat. Nearly all in 14K yellow gold, many in bezels, so each stone is framed and the line reads as one. Color first. The rest follows.

Gemstone Tennis Necklaces: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a tennis necklace?

A single line of gemstones or diamonds set so close together that the strand moves as one. The name is borrowed from the tennis bracelet Chris Evert lost mid-match at the US Open, when play stopped until it was found. The necklace is that bracelet grown to full length.

Do tennis necklaces come in colored gemstones?

Yes, and most of ours do. Pink, orange, blue and multi-colored sapphire, emerald, tsavorite garnet, kyanite, brown zircon, and black onyx alternating with diamonds, most with diamond accents in 14K yellow gold. The diamond classics sit beside them.

How much does a tennis necklace cost?

From $6,572 for a bezel-set diamond line to about $40,000 for an emerald and diamond dual strand. Carat weight, stone, and length set the price, and every listing shows it plainly.

Are the sapphires and emeralds treated?

Heat treatment is the norm for sapphire, an accepted, permanent practice as old as the trade, and most emeralds carry a fine oil that settles into the stone's natural garden. Both are standard for the species and change nothing about how the strand wears. A few strands finish with man-made lab-grown marquise diamond dangles, labeled on the listing.

Can I wear a tennis necklace every day?

Sapphire at 9 on the Mohs hardness scale and diamond at 10 take daily life in stride. Emerald sits at 7.5 to 8 and tsavorite at 6.5 to 7.5, and kyanite is softer still, so those three like a gentler day. Bezels help, since the gold wraps each stone's edges. Warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth are the whole routine; leave ultrasonic and steam cleaners alone, and put the necklace on after perfume.

What length should a tennis necklace be?

Most of ours adjust between 15 and 18 inches, so one necklace sits at the collarbone one day and drapes lower the next. A few are fixed at 16 to 18 inches, and the chokers sit high, around 13 to 17. Message us with the piece you are considering and we will find the length for your neckline.
